Geopolitics and Technology

Exploring the geopolitical implications of technological development

Technological development, from the spread of cyberspace, is increasingly emerging as a field of competition between major powers and beyond. Challenges as well as disputes in technology are now spreading across a plurality of fields and represent areas of increasing vulnerability for many countries. Systems-nations are finding themselves exposed to new external dependencies and interferences: the ability to access raw materials essential for their production systems and infrastructure and the impact these limitations have on their industrial capacities and production chains, but also challenges to democracy (control over citizens, interference in electoral processes, fake news). In the Geopolitics and Technology field, the CSF Foundation aims to explore the geopolitical implications raised by technological development and in particular by the digital revolution, to contribute to the dissemination among the public and among decision-makers of a better awareness of the importance of the emerging technologies in the current international scenario, and to promote interdisciplinary discussion on the issue of global geopolitical strains existing among the many actors involved in technological development.
